Some events in life can have a profound positive impact on you, for me this book was one of those events.
The book was written by someone who I could relate to, someone who still had goals and dreams and someone who has had success and failure in their lives.

Warren Buffet and Bill Gates convinced 40 other billionaires to give at least 50% of their money to a charity of their choosing.

WOW!!! I am impressed and finally some good news.

Warren Buffet even made a commitment to give 99% of his wealth away. Thank you Mr. Buffet. Way to go!!!

One of the people giving half of their wealth away is Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City. A local TV station asked people in the street what they thought about these uper rich giving so much. Some were impressed but others were cynical saying things like “It’s easy to give half a billion if I still have half left” Or another said, they should not give the money to charity, they should rather pay higher taxes because the government needs money.

Come on people, wake up!

1. It is much easier to give 50 cents from a dollar than it is to give 500.000 from a million. Try it out yourself, i.e. sell a piece of real estate and give half of the money away.
2. Throwing money at our governments will not change anyone’s life except maybe our civil servants.

These billions that are going to charities now can really help to change, to improve our world. Finally some of the super rich are taking responsibility. I comment them on what they are doing. Even if ALL would give 10% it would make a massive impact. Unfortunately not all will give but 40 multi- Billionaires is a great beginning so thank you Warren Buffet and Bill Gates.

I hope they will also help the people in Pakistan and Haiiti. They really need our help urgently.  If you have a little to spare, help these people please. We cannot leave this job to those 40 billionaires. Even their vast riches will not be enough.

You can’t even imagine. So much time and effort and heart blood went into writing the TO BE book and now, finally, it is being launched. It’s amazing and I am sooo happy and proud.

These days one reads a lot about about “How to write your book in 30 days” “How to get a book written and published in less than 90 days” etc. and without wanting to put the authors down, I think a non-fiction book needs a little more time if you want to get to the real heart of things.

In 2005 a friend from the US stayed with me for a couple of days. Over breakfast we were having a really inspiring conversation about our dreams and aspirations and I told him about my dream to write a book. He asked me when I will start and I shrugged it off and said, I will start when the time is ripe.

A few minutes later he asked again “When will you start writing that book?”

“When I get to it” was my answer but he insisted and before he left on some errands he asked me again:

“Barbara, when are you going to start?”

Well, the rest is history, as they say. I started there and then and while he was out I wrote the outline and the table of content. It felt so good, you cannot even imagine. The ideas just flew on the paper and when he came back a few hours later I showed it to him. To say, he was impressed, was the least. He was awed (which surprised me) and said that with such a table of content, he definitely wanted to read the book. Well, that is what he is doing right now…

but it took me 5 years – not 30 days!

The actual writing of the first 4 chapters took about 6-9 months of very focused WORK which involved a lot of research, referencing, and introspection. Then I took a book break and travelled for nearly 2 years speaking in many countries and  learned more through teaching and listening and finally I got back to finishing the TO BE book.

Next was editing. My editor did a great job and I made the job really hard for him because each time he showed me the changes I found something I wanted to improve on still so we had to do it again and again.  After working with me he gave up on editing (just joking) and works today as a news anchor for an English TV Station in Moscow, Russia.  Thanks for your patience Johnny.

Now I looked for publishing options and believe me, there are plenty out there. In the end I decided to do it by myself and am very happy with that option but again, it took time. Things happened meanwhile that took my focus away once again. My Mom got ill and passed away a few months later and I kept putting the launch off.

And today I think it was all for a reason because at the end of last year the great T. Harv Eker saw an e-version of the TO BE book and liked it so much that he wrote the foreword for it. HURRAY!!! Now the book was truly ready.

And on July 21st it is being launched into the market place!

One of my cousins has a new husband who is 20 years older than her but he always dresses like a young man and pretends to be younger than her. We were making some fun of him and later someone started a discussion on aging. I laughed about it because I believe there is good in ever age and even though I am not a spring chicken, I believe the best is still to come.

But when I stated that my uncle said I am the last person to say this as I am so afraid of aging. Everyone looked surprised and he said: “Don’t you remember Barbara’s 40th birthday? She was in a terrible state and that just because she turned 40. Now she doesn’t want to know anymore and does everything to look young.”

In that moment I realized he still saw me as I was then, as I was while going through my midlife crisis. I remember that birthday vividly. I really was in a state but this is many years ago and I have changed massively since; have become much more alive and centered.

But for my uncle I am still the same. The middle aged women that thought her life is worthless and almost over and he probably even agrees with me on that. He seems to think my life is pretty useless as he does not understand what I am doing. He does not understand why I am so passionate about my work, why I travel whereever I am needed and do so with pleasure – whether I am paid or not. Personal development? What is that and who needs it?

So if you ever get into a situation like that be aware that they can’t help it. They made a decision at one stage on who you are and unless they keep growing themselves and realize that we either grow or die, they will see you like that forever. It’s nothing personal. It’s them being stuck in an ever repeating “movie of life.

The only thing that is important is that YOU know who you are and who you still intend to become.
