Following my crazy flight to London they actually upgraded me to business class on the way back. I thought that was nice of the universe -.) and of British Airways!
I went to London solely to attend a seminar on NLP and Time Line Therapy. The 2 days were extremely interesting and again I learned a lot about myself.
But one conversations I had during the break on Sunday stuck in my mind. Daniel, a young man I had met at the self-development expo a few months earlier,l asked whether I was going to the Anthony Robbins event next month and I said no but I might go again next year. “Why do you ask? Are you going?” I returned. “No, but there are many people who go to the same events again and again. I love going to seminars but I don’t book another one until I have integrated at least one thing I learned at the last one. If I don’t really put what I learn into action there seems to be no point in going.”
Isn’t that a wise choice? Thanks Daniel for saying it so eloquently. I have a friend who did the whole Tony Robbins curriculum including Fidji followed by some heavy doses of NLP but we can’t see any real changes in her. While another friend who has gone to only one Tony Robbins and to one NLP Training has put everything she learned to work and is now making a name for herself as a speech trainer.
These seminars work but only if we use what we learn. When I see this type of movement and improvement in one of my “To be” members it makes me feel really proud like a parent when their kids have achieved something. That is what my work is all about. Helping people improve and change their life for the better. Could there be any better?
I am sure you heard the saying: When the student is ready, the teacher will come. Meaning, when you are ready to understand you will hear the message. In many cases we are not ready for all that books, audio programs or events like “Unleash the Power Within” by Tony Robbins try to teach us and we only get part of the message. But that is ok as long as we get that part and integrate it into our lives.
But more often than not people attend seminars or workshops to get all hyped up and after 2 weeks back in their everyday life, all is forgotten and they are dreaming of the next one. Even though some of my collegues might not be too happy with what I say here but if you don’t take at least one thing from a book you like, a course you do or a seminar you attend and put it into action, you have probably wasted your time.
So after each training event you attend, each self-help book you read, make sure that you take at least one lesson and integrate that into your life before you move on. Time is so precious and there are so many lessons to learn in life that we really have to take what is offered to us and use it to the best of our abilities.
