I have been in Malaysia many years ago and it was most definitely a third world country then. But that has changed massively since. Kuala Lumpur is today a modern city with a lot of bussiness happening, a country that has a say in Asia.
The government has set an Agenda 2020 where they plan to have established a stronger middle class and higher income for everybody. I have been following the way the local government has “sold” their Agenda 2010 to their country men and I must say it was genius. They got the best heads together and when the plans were set they got a famous novelist to write a book about it. That book was pushed into the Bestseller lists so when the changes were happening the population already knew about it and accepted it much easier. This was about 25 or so years ago and looking at the country’s development since it seems to have worked like a charm.
As Malaysia also took a heavy hit in the worldwide recession they are now working on the Agenda 2020 and I wish them as much success with that as they had on the Agenda 2010.
Maybe some of our Western governments could take them as an example to work on their own Agenda. The aim should always be the improvement of their citizen’s circumstance. I feel many of them have forgotten.
You’ve got brought up a really excellent points , regards for the post.
