I once saw a presentation in the US of a very well-known colleague of mine that I really liked. He started his presentation by holding up a 20 dollar note. There were several hundred participants in the room and he asked who wants to have the note.
Hands started going up and he promised, he would hand over the money but first he had to show us something. He then proceeded to crumple up the 20 dollar note and asked the same question:
“Who still wants to have this 20 $ note?”
Most hands went up in the air.
“Do you still want it if I do this?” And he dropped the note on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his heel. Then he picked it up again and held it up for all to see. By now it was realy dirty and crumbled. Still most hands went up and wanted the money.
So what is the lesson from this little story?
The lesson is that no matter what he did with the money, it did not decrease in value. It was still worth 20 dollars.
The same is true in our life. How often are we crumpled, dropped and feel ground into the dirt by the decisions we make, the people we believe we can trust, and the circumstances that life sends our way. In those moments we feel pretty worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your true value.
To summon it up: No matter what happens to you, you are always priceless to the universe and to those who truly love you. The worth of you comes not from what you do or what happens ti you. It comes only from WHO YOU ARE! Never ever forget that!!!
